COLUMBIANA CORNER Communities throw their weight behind exercise facility projects

Columbiana County-area residents soon will have an increasingly difficult time blaming their flabby conditions on a lack of exercise facilities.
In Salem, work is progressing on a nearly $9.5 million community center that will feature fitness facilities.
It's expected to open in October.
The county's southern section isn't being neglected, either.
It was announced recently that the East Liverpool YMCA intends this spring to undertake a $7.5 million expansion project.
The effort includes building a new YMCA in East Liverpool and adding onto a YMCA facility in Calcutta.
Work is expected to be finished by January.
No cats allowed: At first glance, a poster on the door of a classroom at Joshua Dixon Elementary School in Columbiana appears to proclaim that the classroom occupants are anti-cat. Kitty bashing, however, is not the intent of the poster, which is on the door of the school's computer lab. The poster reads: "Mice at work: No cats allowed."
