Nominations sought
COLUMBUS -- The Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame is accepting nominations for its 2002 class. Nominees must have been born in Ohio or resided here for a minimum of five years, and been honorably discharged and made significant contributions to their communities. About 20 veterans will be inducted in the Hall of Fame on Nov. 7 at the Veterans Memorial. Call (614) 752-8941 for more information and/or an application packet. Nominations must be received by June 30.
Graves Committee
YOUNGSTOWN -- The annual meeting for the Memorial Day United Veterans Council Graves Committee is at 2 p.m. April 14 at the Mahoning County Veterans Service Office, 2801 Market St. James E. McGinnis, UVC cemetery chairman, will review cemetery assignments and distribute flags. Graves decorating is Saturday, May 18, with a rain date of May 25.
Seabee officers
YOUNGSTOWN -- James A. Jeswald, 2506 S. Schenley Ave., was elected 2002 commander of Island X8 Seabee Veterans Association. SALEM -- Army Pvt. Arron J. Juillerat graduated from the 10-week signal support systems specialist course at Fort Gordon, Ga. Juillerat, son of Pamela and Ron Chamberlain, 1289 Franklin Ave., is a 2001 graduate of Salem Senior High School.

Army staff sergeant
BOARDMAN -- Army Staff Sgt. Gregory S. Watkins Jr. was promoted to his present rank while on assignment in Korea as a supply specialist. Watkins, a 1991 graduate of Youngstown Chaney High School, is a son of Katherine and Earnest Pearce, Poland. He and his wife, the former Angelina Gilbert, have two children, London and Jordan, and live in Boardman.

Academic Pin
YOUNGSTOWN -- Air Force Academy Cadet Mike Kripchak (Youngstown Chaney High School, '00), was awarded the Superintendent's Academic Pin with a 3.92 grade point average, and has been selected to participate in the language immersion program in Japan this summer. His a a son of Joe and Ethel Kripchak, 2361 Shawnee Trail.
ASSIGNMENT
Aircraft carrier duty
Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Dean A. Cerny, son of Barbara E. and David J. Cerny, 1005 Anna Belle Ave., McDonald, has completed a six-month deployment in the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf aboard the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Cerny is a 1996 graduate of McDonald High School.
