Pitt St. War on the western frontier, centering on the career of Stand Watie, a Cherokee, and his battles within and outside of his tribe, will be discussed. The public is welcome. Mall bazaar set
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- The Shenango Valley Mall will have its annual spring bazaar April 17-20 during regular mall hours. The bazaar, which takes place twice yearly, is an opportunity for nonprofit organizations and civic groups to spend time in the mall selling crafts and baked goods, distributing information and attaining public notice.
Participants are Our Lady Star of the Sea, Southwest Gardens, Triumph Christian Church, Sharing and Caring for Mercer County, Mercer County Children and Youth Services and Victory Harvest Ministries.
Live telecast on grief
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A live telecast on coping with grief later in life is set for 1:15 to 4 p.m. April 24 at the Penn State Cooperative Extension in Lawrence County, third floor annex of the Lawrence County Courthouse.
The live televised broadcast will feature Cokie Roberts of ABC News and will examine the needs and barriers faced by our aging population and how to help them cope with losses experienced in later life. Sharon official to retire
SHARON, Pa. -- The city is losing the longtime executive director of its community development department. Joseph Caminiti, 64, said he will retire from the post May 31.
"I've worked 50 years of my life," he said, noting he got his first job as a very young man. "I think it's enough."
Caminiti has worked for the city for nearly 29 years. He joined its redevelopment authority and stayed on when its duties were shifted to what became the city's CD department, where he's served as executive director since 1985. Mayor David O. Ryan said no final decisions have been made about who will fill his post.
Bomb-threat sentence
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- A student who made a bomb threat at the Pittsburgh Amtrak station in November was sentenced to time served, fined $500 and put on probation for three years. Mazen Mohamed Abdallah, 22, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Donetta W. Ambrose on Friday. Abdallah was arrested Nov. 17 and spent 22 days in jail before being freed on $10,000 bond.
Science center bus trip
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning Valley Historical Society will sponsor a bus trip April 27 to the Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland to view the Titanic exhibition, which contains more than 250 shipwreck artifacts, including 50 never before on public display.
