WARREN -- Valley Counseling Services will offer a virtual reality schizophrenia experience from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday.
Visitors can wear headgear that mimics the sights and sounds experienced by people with schizophrenia. About 2.5 million Americans suffer from the disease.
The event is sponsored by Janssen Pharmaceutica Inc., a manufacturer of anti-schizophrenia medication, and Trumbull LifeLines.
Facilitator trainingat Lake Farmpark
KIRTLAND -- Project Food, Land & amp; People will conduct a facilitator training workshop from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 30 at Lake Farmpark. Those who complete the training will become certified FLP facilitators able to conduct in-service sessions for teachers and others.
FLP provides educational resources and approaches to learning for educators and pupils in kindergarten through 12th grade.
The program focuses on the relationships among agriculture, the environment and people.
Cost of the workshop is $55, payable at the door. Participants must register no later than April 22. Lunch can be brought or purchased on site.

State transit money
ASHTABULA -- Ashtabula County has been awarded $704,725 through the state Rural Transit Program to assist with operating costs of the local public transportation system as it offers reduced fares for the elderly and disabled and for the purchase of two vans.
A total of $14.8 million is being distributed statewide through the rural program to improve access to employment, health care, education, shopping and recreation of residents who rely on public transportation.
Urban league speaker
GIRARD -- "Commitment, Consistency and Achievement" will be the topic of Ron Daniels, a Youngstown native and executive director of the Center for Constitutional Rights in New York, at the Youngstown Area Urban League's 36th annual dinner and awards banquet at 6:30 p.m. April 19 at Mahoning Country Club.
A veteran social and political activist, who has taught at numerous universities, Daniels was executive director of the National Rainbow Coalition in 1987, deputy campaign manager for Jesse Jackson's 1988 presidential bid and a key organizer of the 1995 Million Man March.

Science center bus trip
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning Valley Historical Society will sponsor a bus trip April 27 to the Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland to view the Titanic exhibition, which contains more than 250 shipwreck artifacts, including 50 never before on public display.
Reservation deadline is April 15. Cost is $40 for society members, $45 for nonmembers.
