MERCER, Pa.-- The Mercer County Historical Society will offer "A Spring Smorgasbord" of music as the society's Chamber Players offer a free concert at 7 p.m. Sunday in Helen Black Miller Memorial Chapel at 119 S. Pitt St. The program will feature works by Handel, Haydn, Debussy and Strauss, among others. There will be an open reception in the chapel's social hall after the concert.
Contest winners
WARREN -- "Heroic Women of the Past or Present" was the theme for the biannual contest sponsored by the Upton Association in conjunction with Women's History Month.
Winners were: grades 11-12, Carrie Rosen, Maplewood, first; Sam Mann, Howland, second; grades 9-10, Jenna Green, Howland, first; Julie Hoopes, Lakeview, and Casey Sanfrey, Howland, tie for second.
NAACP dinner
WARREN -- The Warren-Trumbull County chapter of the NAACP will have its annual dinner next Saturday in Vernon's Cafe in Niles. Social hour begins at 6 p.m., with dinner at 7.
A $20 donation will be taken for adults, and children under 12 will pay $12. Tickets are available by calling (330) 394-5942, (330) 372-9347 or (330) 898-3046.
Keynote speaker will be Rev. Ronald P. Fowlis, pastor of the East Side Church of Christ where he's served since 1964.
He is a member of the NAACP, the Trumbull County Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, Trumbull Community Action program board and the board overseeing Sunshine Inc. housing programs.
