Mangino, Minett assist investigation

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Matthew Mangino, Lawrence County district attorney, and Thomas Minett, assistant district attorney, are serving as special deputy attorney generals for the Pennsylvania Attorney General's office.
Both men were appointed last October by Attorney General Mike Fisher and given the commission by Gov. Mark Schweiker. They are assisting a Pittsburgh grand jury in its investigation as it relates to Lawrence County.
Mangino said it's not uncommon for someone from a county where a grand jury investigation is under way to be appointed to serve as a special deputy attorney general.
"This is to permit a greater involvement of local prosecutors in cases that affect their local communities," he said.
The Lawrence County District Attorney's office recently collaborated with the attorney general's office on a number of investigations, including the recent arrest of 12 members of a cocaine ring in the county.
