PREP ROUNDUP Lamport helps Poland gain split down south

The junior pitcher tossed a three-hitter in a win over Greenville.
SUMMERVILLE, S.C. -- The Poland High Girls softball team split a doubleheader beating Greenville High 4-1, then losing to Goose Creek High 1-0 Wednesday at Gahana Park.
Poland's Jessica Lamport (2-0), a junior, fired a three-hitter, striking out seven and walking none to pick up the win.
Steffi Graf hit a double and two singles and scored twice for the Bulldogs.
Stephanie Russell hit a double and drove in a run.
In the second contest Goose Creek (21-1) got the only run in a International rules tiebreaker.
At the end of time limit, Goose Creek was allowed to put a runner on second and she scored on an error.
Senior Sarah Knill tossed a three-hitter, struck out four and didn't walk a batter in a losing cause for the Bulldogs (3-1).
Knill also hit a double and was left stranded on base in the fourth inning.
The Bulldogs had runners at third on a couple occasions and then in the last inning, a runner on their and couldn't score.
Poland was scheduled to play two more games today.
West Geauga 9-14, Southington 2-5: ORLANDO, Fla. -- Becca Derr and Melissa Smith each hit two singles for the Wildcats in the first game at Disney's Wide World of Sports, and Katie Fiest hit a double.
Dottie Plock hit a pair of singles for Southington (0-2).
Derr hit a triple and finished with two runs batted in.
Western Reserve 12, Crestview 0: BERLIN CENTER -- Mikah Berger opened the softball season at Western Reserve High by tossing a no-hitter Tuesday against Crestview.
Berger struck out 10 batters, while she received good support from Kristen Kurth with three hits and two RBIs.
Terry Gader added two hits and two RBIs and Quinn McCammon had two hits.
Baseball: COCOA, Fla. -- Jason King had three hits, Greg Rohan had two and an RBI and George Rohan singled in two runs as South Range beat Mentor Lake Catholic 8-7 during the Cocoa Expo as part of the Raiders' spring swing in the south.
South Range won its third straight.
Starter Jason King got the victory after pitching five innings. Jimmy Sanders had six putouts and a single for Range, whose next game is against Minnesota.
Mentor Lake Catholic (3-1) suffered its first loss.
