Top-ranked Pius X tops Kennedy Catholic
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Eric Rath scored on touchdown runs of 64 and 9 yards to lead Pius X, Pennsylvania's top-ranked team in Class A, to a 29-12 victory over Kennedy Catholic Saturday.
Glenn Connolly also scored twice for Pius (5-0), including the game's first score, a 2-yard run in the first quarter. Pius is located near the New Jersey border.
Kennedy Catholic's Matt Carothers threw two touchdown passes, including a 22-yard strike to Matt Carothers that allowed the Golden Eagles to close within 8-6 early in the third quarter. Kennedy Catholic (0-5) got their last touchdown on a 24-yard pass to George Revere as time expired.
Canfield 34, Niles 6: CANFIELD -- Quarterback Leo Sorice scored touchdowns on runs of 37 and 3 yards to lead the Cardinals (4-2, 1-1 Metro Athletic Conference).
Sorice also threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Gavin DiRusso.
Tom Banna scored on a 1-yard run and Alex Axelson returned a fumble 32 yards for Canfield's other scores.
For Niles (1-5, 0-2), Kyle Leonard scored on a 2-yard run.
