Rex Grossman became the first Gator quarterback to surpass the 300-yard mark in four straight games.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Rex Grossman threw for five touchdowns and a career-high 393 yards, becoming the first Florida quarterback to surpass the 300-yard mark in four straight games, as the No. 2-ranked Gators routed Southeastern Conference rival No. 21 Mississippi State, 52-0 Saturday.
Grossman had 317 yards after two quarters, as Florida (4-0, 2-0 SEC) took a 35-0 lead, and was well on the way to embarrassing the Bulldogs (1-2, 0-2) far worse than they embarrassed the Gators last year in their 47-35 win in Starkville.
Florida recorded its first shutout of an SEC opponent since beating Kentucky 65-0 in 1996, the national-title season.
Grossman also ran for a touchdown. He completed 22 of 31 passes, and has 1,401 yards and 15 touchdown passes on the year.
No. 4 Nebraska 36, Missouri 3: COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Eric Crouch scored on a 95-yard run, the longest in school history, and rushed for a school quarterback-record 191 yards as Nebraska beat Missouri.
Dahrann Diedrick scored two touchdowns for Nebraska (5-0), which has a 23-game winning streak against Missouri (1-2) since 1978, with an average score of 38-14.
Crough broke the record of 94 yards set by Craig Johnson on Oct. 13, 1979, against Kansas, and matched by Roger Craig on Sept. 19, 1981, against Florida State. Crouch eclipsed the quarterback mark of 174 yards set by Gerry Gdowski against Iowa State in 1989.
No. 5 Texas 42, Texas Tech 7: AUSTIN, Texas -- Ivan Williams rushed for 152 yards and two touchdowns and Chris Simms added a pair of short scoring runs and a TD pass for Texas.
No. 7 Tennessee 26, No. 14 LSU 18: KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Kelley Washington caught 11 passes for 256 yards and a touchdown, snapping the Tennessee offense out of a season-long lethargy.
Washington's yardage broke the school's 35-year-old single-game record set by Johnny Mills.
No. 8 Virginia Tech 46, C. Florida 14: BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Grant Noel was 15-for-25 for 170 yards and Virginia Tech (4-0) capitalized on five turnovers. Freshman running back Kevin Jones had 90 yards, spinning and diving into the end zone in the second quarter for his first career touchdown. Keith Burnell added 82 yards and two touchdowns.
Clemson 47, No. 9 Georgia Tech 44: ATLANTA -- Woody Dantzler capped a brilliant game by running 11 yards for the winning touchdown in overtime, giving Clemson an upset victory over Georgia Tech.
The Yellow Jackets (3-1, 0-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) had the ball first in OT, settling for Luke Manget's 33-yard field goal after Joe Burns was stopped for no gain on third-and-1 at the 16.
Then it was Dantzler's turn, and the senior burned the Yellow Jackets one final time. Facing third-and-6 from the 11, he took a step back, spotted an opening up the middle and went all the way to the end zone to give the Tigers (3-1, 1-1) a crucial victory on the heels of an upset loss to Virginia a week earlier.
Dantzler was 18-of-32 for 254 yards and two touchdowns and led Clemson in rushing with 164 yards on 25 carries -- meaning the quarterback had a hand in 418 of his team's 502 yards.
No. 12 UCLA 38, No. 19 Oregon St. 7: CORVALLIS, Ore. -- DeShaun Foster ran for 147 yards and three touchdowns, and Cory Paus threw two scoring passes to Brian Poli-Dixon as UCLA routed Oregon State.
UCLA (4-0, 1-0 Pac-10) atoned for its 55-7 defeat at Reser Stadium in 1999 by piling up 496 yards.
Oregon State (1-2, 0-1) had racked up 99 points and 1,163 yards the last two years against UCLA, and the Beavers were going for their first three-game winning streak in the series' 52-game history. But on this day, they gained just 157 yards until a late 63-yard touchdown run by Steven Jackson.
Oregon State's Ken Simonton, who led the Pac-10 in rushing last year at 134 yards a game, was held to a career-low 26 on 13 carries.
No. 13 Washington 31, California 28: BERKELEY, Calif. -- Cody Pickett was 18-of-33 for 291 yards and two touchdowns as Washington won its 11th straight game.
Washington (3-0, 1-0 Pac-10) also has won eight consecutive conference games. Paul Arnold caught five passes for 116 yards, including two TD passes from Pickett, as Washington overcome a 21-7 first-half deficit. Rich Alexis had a pair of 1-yard touchdown runs.
No. 15 S. Carolina 37, Alabama 36: COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Phil Petty threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to tight end Rod Trafford with 2:18 left as South Carolina beat Alabama for the first time ever.
The Gamecocks (4-0, 3-0 SEC ) trailed 36-24 with 9:01 remaining and looked in danger of going 0-11 against Alabama when Tide quarterback Tyler Watts scored on his second TD run.
But Petty, ineffective most of the game, completed five straight passes, the last for 27 yards to Derek Watson at Alabama's 2. Watson followed with a TD run that made it 36-30.
No. 18 Florida St. 48, Wake Forest 24: TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Chris Rix threw for 345 yards and three touchdowns as Florida State rebounded from its worst regular-season loss since 1983.
