PITTSBURGH -- Two days of activities are planned in celebration of the 10th anniversary of Carnegie Science Center. Hours will be from 6 to 10:30 p.m. Friday and starting at 11 a.m. Saturday at 1 Allegheny Ave., next to Heinz Field.
Friday's events begin with a display of 1,000 luminaries and a fireworks show. There also will be music, a laser show and a movie.
Saturday's activities include a KDKA live broadcast, making harmonicas and party hats, anniversary cake cutting, radio exhibit and laser show.
The movie "To The Limit" will be screened at 7 and 8 p.m. Friday and at noon, 2 and 4 p.m. Saturday. The adventure film on physical endurance of athletes was the first movie shown at the large format theater, Rangos Omnimax Theater, which has a 79-foot domed screen.

Meadow Maize Days
AVELLA, PA. -- Meadow Maize Days will be from noon to 5 p.m. Oct. 20 and 21 at Meadowcroft Museum of Rural Life, 401 Meadowcroft Road. Featured will be 19th century activities such as the husking, shelling and grinding of corn, the making of cornhusk dolls, horse-drawn wagon rides and music. The admission is $6.50 for adults and $3.50 for children 6 to 16.
Directing seminar
CLEVELAND -- Guy Magar, Miramax film director, will be the instructor at an action/cut directing film and television seminar to be sponsored by the Cleveland Film Society and Cleveland Filmmakers at the Residence Inn by Marriott, 527 Prospect Ave., Cleveland.
The intensive workshop will provide tips on film productions, financing, distribution and the business of being a working director in feature films and television, including how to get an agent and how to prepare a director's reel.
Hours for the seminar are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 20 and 21. The cost before Oct. 10 is $250 for members of the sponsoring organizations and students and $275 for nonmembers. After Oct. 10 the cost is $325 for members and students and $350 for nonmembers.
