COLUMBIANA -- West Branch junior Lisa Davies and Boardman senior Tom Albani each won easily Saturday at the Columbiana Cross Country Invitational.
Davies ran a 19:45 to finish 52 seconds ahead of Lisbon's Katrina Brickner. Mooney's Val Zajac placed third (21:04) to lead the Cardinals (51 points) to the team championship. Struthers took second with 94 points and Salem was third with 120.
Albani ran a 16:41, 22 seconds ahead of Mooney's Joe Taylor as Boardman placed third with 101 points. East Liverpool, led by Mark Montgomery's fifth place finish, took first with 64 points. Mooney was second with 84.
Davies and Albani each finished first at last Tuesday's Suburban League Championships.
AKRON -- Senior Julie Nemergut placed third in 22 minutes, 28 seconds at the Woodridge Invitational Saturday.
South Range took team laures with 88 points with 11 schools participating. Jefferson placed second with 92 and McDonald was third with 101.
The Raiders' Sarah Wingert finished 10th (23:34), Kalie Clarke was 17th (24:10), Molly Wingert was 19th (24:15) and Kerry Johnson was 39th (25:22).
The Raiders' boys placed fifth with 138 points. Tens teams competed. Dan Nemergut, a freshman, was 15th (19:32), Jim Kusiowski was 16th (19:35) and Jared Oliver was 17th (19:36).
