Pets for hospitals
YOUNGSTOWN -- The "K-9s for Compassion" and "RX: Dog Love" groups will be in Youngstown Oct. 27-28 to test potential animal-handler teams to become Delta Society Pet Partners who visit hospital patients. Selected volunteers will be asked to make weekly visits with their pets to St. Elizabeth Health Center on Belmont Avenue. The program will begin in November. Delta Society is a national organization started in 1977 and dedicated to promoting awareness of the positive effects of animals on human health and development. Testing, at St. Elizabeth's, will consist of a 19-step test involving basic obedience and aptitude. For more information or an appointment, contact Katie Squibbs at (330) 534-2001.
