Local author delvesinto Ohio's history
Stories of ghosts, murders and historical happenings in east central Ohio are recounted in a new book, "Tales of the Tuscarawas Valley," by Boardman resident Jon Baker.
The tales cover a wide time period, from the pioneer days in Ohio to the 1940s, and take place in Tuscarawas County and surrounding counties. Included in the book are: the story of the first woman coal miner in Ohio; an account of an ill-fated expedition to the Arctic; the story of the terrible fate of the desecrators of a country church; and the legend of the mysterious Jimhinker.
Baker, a copy editor for The Vindicator, has been writing about local history for newspapers in eastern Ohio for the past 16 years.

Writing workshopat Barnes & amp; Noble
BOARDMAN -- On Thursday at 7 p.m., Barnes & amp; Noble Booksellers is offering a writing workshop. The evening's events include topics such as writer's block, where ideas come from, giving constructive feedback and getting published. The evening will also include other author events and giveaways for writers.
Local authors Carmen Leone and Robert Calcagni will facilitate the workshop. Together they have written three books: "Rose Street," "Rose Street Revisited" and "Remembering Our Rose Streets: A Guide for Collecting and Writing Family Stories." Leone is retired from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania but currently teaches part-time at YSU.
The workshop is free and open to the public, and writers of all skill levels are invited to join.
