Kinko's will allow posting of photos

YOUNGSTOWN -- Kinko's, in partnership with the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, has established Put a Face with a Name campaign to help upload, at no cost to participants, pictures on The Virtual Wall, an electronic list of the people whose names are etched on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
Now through Nov. 11, which is Veterans Day, Kinko's is offering the use of its computer stations and scanning equipment free to people who lost loved ones in the Vietnam War. Kinko's, which developed the desktop software program for the project, will also help people get started on the computer and provide a free return visit for participants to view their photo on the Virtual Wall.
Takes three days: Once the uploading process is complete, it takes about three days for the picture to be reviewed and posted on The Virtual Wall. At that point, the photo can be viewed from any computer with Internet access, Kinko's officials said.
The photos will create a permanent legacy of those who made the ultimate sacrifice and serve as a constant reminder that the service members who gave their lives are more than just names on The Wall, Kinko's said.
The goal is to digitally collect the photos of the 58,226 people, including 3,095 from Ohio, whose names are etched on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
Getting word out: Jane Walker, chairwoman of the Ohio VFW Ladies Auxiliary's Americanism Committee, is coordinating a statewide VFW effort to alert family and friends of people killed in Vietnam of the opportunity to participate.
Walker, affiliated with VFW Post 4579 Auxiliary in East Palestine, said she plans to contact the 12 VFW auxiliary districts in the state and urge them to search for possible participants.
Area Kinko's stores are at 5414 Youngstown-Warren Road, Niles, and 48 Boardman-Poland Road, Boardman.
