CHILD CARE Tips for parents

STATE REGULATIONS
The Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services has set the following requirements for children in day care:
A minimum of one staff member should be in charge of every five babies and there should be no more than 12 infants in a group.
For ages 18-30 months, there should be at least one staff member in charge of each group of seven. The maximum group size for this age range is 14.
A minimum of one staff member should be in charge of no more than eight children aged 30-36 months. The maximum group size for this age range is 16.
For preschoolers, there should be at least one adult for each 12 children and groups should be no larger than 24.
For 4- and 5-year-olds, there should be one adult for every 14 children and no more than 28 in a group.
For ages 5 to 11, there should be one adult for every 18 children and no more than 36 in a group.
For ages 11 to 14 there should be one instructor for each group of 20 and groups should be no larger than 40.
