AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT Workshop agenda
The Mahoning Valley Labor Management Council will present an all-day workshop and seminar on the Americans with Disabilities Act from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the Holiday Inn in Boardman. Call the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber of Commerce to register. Here's what's on the agenda:
Panel discussion: Featuring Sandy DeSantis of Ohio Rehabilitation Services Commission, Mike McBride of Goodwill Industries and Marilyn Titus of Camelot Center.
A lawyer's view: Ned Gold of Harrington, Hoppe & amp; Mitchell, Ltd. will discuss common misperceptions and assumptions employers make when considering employment of a disabled applicant.
Success story: Ralph Zerbonia of Cboss Inc. talks about the company's experience with hiring Justin Daubenmire, who is blind, to work on its technical support staff.
Employment physicals: LuAnn Carfang of Forum Health's WorkMED Industrial Rehab Medical Services and Tom Gilliam of Individual Physical Capabilities Services will discuss techniques for screening applicants to meet the physical demands of a job while following ADA guidelines.
Reasonable accommodations: Dave Cameron, an ADA coordinator from the Ohio Bureau of Rehabilitation Services in Columbus, will discuss what the law means when it says an employer should make reasonable accommodations for an employee with disabilities.
