33RD DEGREE Area Masons to be honored next year

YOUNGSTOWN -- Douglas F. Anstrom of Niles and Thomas L. Weems of Youngstown were elected to receive the Scottish Rite 33rd Degree during the Supreme Council held Sept. 25 in Indianapolis.
The honor will be conferred next September in Boston.
The degree is awarded for active service in Masonry to members who have been outstanding leaders in their communities.
Anstrom is a member and past master of Argus Lodge 545, F & amp;AM in Canfield. He also belongs to Youngstown Chapter 93, RAM; St. John's Commandery 20, Knights Templar; Al Koran Shrine in Cleveland; Youngstown Shrine Club; Saxon Club; Youngstown Maennerchor; Harmony Lodge 465, VASA; Fraternal Order of Eagles; and the Norseman Club. In the Scottish Rite, he is a past most wise master of Youngstown Chapter of Rose Croix and served as director for Maundy Thursday for six years. He served in several degrees and is on the Valley Strategic Planning Committee.
A funeral director, he graduated from Youngstown State University and the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. He and his wife, Noreen, are members of First Covenant Church.
Weems is a member and past master of Hillman Lodge 481, F & amp;AM, and a member of the Youngstown York Rite Bodies. He was inducted into Ohio Priory 18, Knights of the York Cross of Honour, and is a member of Al Koran Shrine in Cleveland, Clarence E. O'Neil Council 53, Allied Masonic Degrees and the Saxon Club. In the Scottish Rite, he is a past most wise master of Youngstown Chapter of Rose Croix and is first lieutenant commander of Mahoning Consistory. He directs and serves in several degrees and works with lighting and sound.
A member of Brownlee Woods Presbyterian Church, he and his wife, Janice, have three children. He served in the U.S. Navy and is a retired steelworker. He is superintendent of the Youngstown Masonic Temple.
