SHARON, Pa. -- The McGuire Sisters will now participate in the 2001 induction ceremony at the Vocal Group Hall of Fame Museum.
The Sept. 11 terrorist attacks delayed the ceremony, originally set for Sept. 13. The McGuire Sisters couldn't make the original date and had sent a video acceptance speech.
That won't be necessary now, said Tiffany Frank, executive director of the Vocal Group Hall of Fame & amp; Museum. They will be here for Thursday's ceremony, she said.
The trio is one of 14 groups from the 1940s through the 1980s to be inducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Pop Music Building at 98 E. State St.
Acappella Gold, winners of 2001 Sweet Adelines International competition, won't be here to accept special recognition. They were able to make the Sept. 13 date but must perform elsewhere this week, Frank said.
The only other notable change in the four-day induction celebration is the cancellation of the Music In Education program scheduled for Friday.
Because of severe flight restrictions now in place nationwide, most of the singers who had offered to participate in the education program for students would have to leave early Friday morning to catch their flights, Frank said. That program will be rescheduled she said.
Golf outing: Celebration activities begin Wednesday with a celebrity golf outing at Oak Tree Country Club at 12:15 p.m. and there is an induction celebration dinner and concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Tiffany Banquet Center in Brookfield.
The induction ceremony is Thursday, followed by an open air concert at 6:30 p.m. in the parking lot behind the Pop Music Building.
The show should run about five hours.
Activities will conclude Saturday with a record show in the Pop Music Building beginning at 1 p.m.
Tickets and other information are available by calling the museum at (724) 983-2025. Program tickets bought for the earlier dates will be honored this week.
In addition to The McGuire Sisters, groups being inducted this year are: The Lennon Sisters, The Vogues, The Lettermen, The Pied Pipers, The Chordettes, Smokey Robinson & amp; The Miracles, The Weavers, The Four Aces, The Four Freshmen, Gladys Knight & amp; the Pips, The Bee Gees, The Eagles and The Oak Ridge Boys.
