YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown State University's board of trustees modified its policies Friday for YSU students called into military service.
Previously, students who withdrew received refunds of fees. Now, such students will get full refunds of tuition and fees.
Students unable to complete all course work had been able to take an incomplete.
If no work was done for a year, they automatically received an "F."
Now, students called to military duty may get extensions to the one-year period.
$28,589 for victims
YOUNGSTOWN -- Forum Health employees in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties raised $28,589 for victims of the Sept. 11 attacks.
Presented Friday were checks of $7,716 to the Trumbull County American Red Cross and $20,873 to the Clear Channel Relief Fund.
The $7,716 was raised during a Red, White and Blue Day on Sept. 21 at which employees sold ribbons and collected donations.
Employees donated hundreds of hours of vacation time, valued at $20,873 by Forum Health and donated to the American Red Cross.
Respect Life Week
CAMPBELL -- Students at St. Joseph the Provider School will study diversity and other issues during Respect Life Week in response to the attacks.
Events include the students dressing in red, white and blue on Tuesday for a prayer service at 1:45 a.m.; a prayer service and environmental program at 9 a.m. Wednesday, and a blessing of the pets at 9 a.m. Thursday to celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi.
Rite Aid contributions
CAMP HILL, Pa. -- Rite Aid customers and employees donated more than $750,000 in the first eight days of a campaign to raise money for national relief efforts.
Also, Rite Aid donated $25,000 to the New York firefighters relief fund and $25,000 to the United Way Sept. 11 Fund.
Stores and distribution centers donated more than $50,000 in supplies to rescue sites.
Food sale for Red Cross
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Two city residents are hoping some foreign food will spur some national pride.
Tom and Huyen Mitchell will sell Chinese food from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 6 in the parking lot of Calls Plaza, off Wilmington Road.
All proceeds will go to the Lawrence County American Red Cross. The menu will range from $1.50 for egg rolls to $6 for General Tso's Chicken.
Relief fund donations
BOARDMAN -- The American Red Cross will accept Disaster Relief Fund donations from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Boardman Rotary Club's annual Oktoberfest in Boardman Park. Donations also will be collected from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. during Shooting Star Entertainment performances at the Maag Amphitheater.
Columbiana carwash
COLUMBIANA -- The Columbiana High School junior class raised $615 for the American Red Cross Disaster Fund, said Joe Work, a parent.
The juniors washed cars in the parking lot of Pizza Hut on state Route 14.
Delphi campaign
WARREN -- Delphi Packard Electric Systems and Local 717 of the International Union of Electrical Workers donated more than $20,000 to the American Red Cross on Friday.
More than 220 units of blood also were collected during the campaign.
