Painting stolen
BOARDMAN -- Township police are looking for a stolen painting titled "Mallard's Rocky Retreat," valued at $1,150. Police reports say it was taken Wednesday from Boardman Framehouse Gallery on Tiffany Boulevard.
The gallery owner told police he saw the painting on the wall Wednesday morning, but it was gone when he returned to the business that evening.
Tools reported missing
BOARDMAN -- An employee of Boardman Supply Co. on Southern Boulevard told police that tools worth an estimated $8,000 were stolen Wednesday afternoon.
The man said he noticed several locks had been removed when he arrived for work in the morning. When he checked the tool room, he discovered that the tools were gone.
Canfield paving project
CANFIELD -- City police announced tentative plans for the paving of East Main Street beginning at 7 a.m. Monday. The south side of the street will be paved first. Police are asking businesses to divert deliveries and traffic when possible and the general public to consider alternative routes.
Car damaged
AUSTINTOWN -- A 20-year-old Collins Avenue man reported to police that someone had shot a BB or pellet gun at a 1994 Oldsmobile parked in the home's driveway between 12:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Tuesday, causing damage to the trunk, rear end and passenger side taillight.
The man's mother also reported that someone had tried to break into the home's attached garage between 6:30 a.m. and 4:15 p.m., damaging door locks.
Apartment fire
YOUNGSTOWN -- A predawn fire today at 3380 Flo Lor Lane in the Brandywine apartment complex in Cornersburg caused about $30,000 damage, Battalion Chief Frank Rosa said. The fire started about 4:45 a.m. in the kitchen of a basement apartment, Rosa said.
Everyone in the 12-apartment building was able to get out and there were no injuries, he said.
Reports of assaults
AUSTINTOWN -- Two women recently came to the township police station to report that they had been assaulted by other women.
According to one report, a 32-year-old Youngstown woman told police that one of her female co-workers yelled at her Tuesday night while she was leaving her place of employment. The Youngstown woman said that when she tried to leave, the other woman slapped her.
Another report states that a 39-year-old West Elmwood Avenue woman told police that she had an argument with another woman Tuesday afternoon. During the argument, the other woman became enraged and punched her in the face and chest.
Police said the West Elmwood Avenue woman was bruised on the face and chest as a result of the fight. The woman also told police that she has received about 10 harassing phone calls from the other woman since the fight.
Police are investigating both reports.

HOWLAND -- A conference for medical professionals on Stroke: Medical Perspectives and Therapeutic Interventions will be Friday and Saturday at Avalon Inn and Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital, respectively.

Prosecutor's son
NILES -- The son of the city prosecutor was to appear in court this morning, charged with domestic violence. Bruce D. Bennett, 19, Sunny Estates Drive, was arrested Wednesday evening when his father, Bruce Bennett, the city prosecutor, same address, called police. Police found broken glass on the kitchen floor when they arrived.
