YOUNGSTOWN -- A Girard mother who overheard her 16-year-old daughter talking on the phone about being raped by two men on the East Side reported it to police.
After the mother learned what happened, she went to the home of her daughter's friend on Townsend Avenue in Liberty late Saturday and spoke to the girl's father.
The girls, both 16, were taken to Forum Health Northside Medical Center for rape exams.
The Girard girl said she had visited her friend in Liberty late Friday, and then they needed a ride back to her home on Tibbetts-Wick Road.
The Liberty girl called a man she knows as John, whom she met on the Internet, and he picked them up at Dairy Mart on Church Hill Road.
Where crimes occurred: Instead of taking the girls to Girard, the man drove south on Belmont, then to the East Side of Youngstown. They ended up in a house with two other men, Robert and Richard, and were given beer, police learned.
The three men were in their mid- to late 20s, reports show.
The Liberty girl went to a bedroom with a man named Robert to look at coins and posters. She later recalled for police that she had sex in the bedroom but, because she was intoxicated, didn't remember much.
The Girard girl, meanwhile, said she was given a soft drink that tasted stale. She started to feel numb and drowsy and was then raped by John and Richard, she told police.
The Girard girl recalled that sometime around 4:30 a.m. Saturday, John drove them back to her house on Tibbetts-Wick.
Both Mahoning and Trumbull County Children Services were contacted.
Police said they have a good description of the men, John's vehicle and two cell phone numbers.
