MECCA -- Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a motorcycle crash that killed a Warren woman. A spokesman at the Southington post of the patrol said Jerry L. Brown, 46, of East Market Street was driving his motorcycle on state Route 88 at 5:48 p.m. Saturday when it went off the right side of the road and hit a guardrail. Both he and his passenger, Terri L. Davis, 42, also of East Market Street, Warren, were thrown from the bike and landed in a rock embankment. Both were taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center. Davis died at 9:03 p.m. Saturday and Brown was treated at the hospital.
Shooting investigated
WEATHERSFIELD -- Township police are investigating a weekend shooting that left a Warren man with a leg wound. Capt. Joe Consiglio said Douglas F. Stauffer, 45, of Adelaide Avenue S.E., reported being shot about 6:15 p.m. Friday. Stauffer then drove himself to Forum Health Northside Medical Center and underwent surgery to remove the slug, Consiglio said. He declined to say where Stauffer reported the shooting occurred or provide other details until police have spoken to Stauffer. Stauffer was in surgical intensive care at the hospital this morning.
Walk-through canceled
VIENNA -- Mathews Board of Education has canceled the walk-through of Baker Elementary School that had been scheduled for Tuesday. Instead, the board has scheduled a special meeting for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Neal Middle School to approve appropriations.
Police await ruling
HUBBARD -- A ruling is pending from the Trumbull County Coroner's office in the death of a Cortland man found in the township. Police said the 47-year-old, whom they declined to identify, was found late Saturday afternoon in an area in the eastern end of the township near Fox-North Road.
Commissions honored
YOUNGSTOWN -- Local emergency planning commissions from Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties will be among several from across Ohio to be honored Wednesday for their performance in 2000. They are being recognized by the Ohio State Emergency Response Commission for their ability to deal with hazardous materials. The awards will be presented during the annual Local Emergency Planning Commission conference in Cincinnati.
Drug abuse instruments
YOUNGSTOWN -- After stopping Sean P. Ungaro, 28, of Fifth Avenue Saturday afternoon for going through a stop sign and speeding on the North Side, police issued a summons charging him with possession of drug abuse instruments. Police found a hypodermic syringe and two lighters in his pants pocket. The officers said he told them he is a heroin addict. Police also said they found two syringes and a metal spoon in the car, and he told them the substance on the spoon was OxyContin, a controlled substance, which he got in Austintown. Ungaro, who was expected to be arraigned today in municipal court, is a son of former mayor Patrick Ungaro.
Boy dies in crash
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- A 16-year-old Farrell boy was killed in a one-car accident on North Water Avenue. Police said Dishon Campbell of 1155 Wallace Ave., was pronounced dead after being pulled from the car by police and firefighters. They said the car crashed into a tree on the 1800 block of North Water Avenue at about 1:32 a.m. Sunday. Investigators said the Chevrolet Corsica left the east side of the road and crashed into the tree. Firefighters had to put out an engine fire before getting Campbell out of the car, police said. No one else was in the car, they said.
