HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Tuesday will be Victims' Benefit Day at Cinema 8 on East State Street. All box office and concession stand proceeds will go to disaster relief for victims of the terrorist attacks. The eight-screen movie theater will be open from 12:30 to 10 p.m. Call (724) 981-7180 for show titles and times.
Cops to make delivery
CANFIELD -- A group of about a dozen village police officers will visit New York City next week to deliver donations to New York City police. They will also deliver letters written to police officers from Canfield Village Middle School students. They plan to leave Tuesday and return Thursday. Sgt. Cristobal Ruiz, who was raised in Queens, and Officer Daniel Galich had visited Manhattan last month, stopping at the World Trade Center to view the city from its roof-top observation deck. Ruiz's brother, Washington Ruiz, is an officer in the New York City Police Department, serving in the 30th precinct in the Bronx. Sgt. Ruiz said the Canfield crew would also offer to help relief workers, if needed.
Dedicated to victims
GREENFORD -- School officials will dedicate the new pavilion behind South Range Middle School to the memory of victims who died in terrorist attacks in New York and Washington during a ceremony at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Collecting relief items
YOUNGSTOWN -- Farmers National Bank and Second Harvest Food Bank will be collecting relief items for the victims of terrorist attacks in New York City. Bottled water, juices, protein bars, ready-to-eat meals and paper products will be accepted at all 16 bank branches during regular business hours through Sept. 29. The items will be stored at Second Harvest of the Mahoning Valley until they are needed.
Lecture on coping
NORTH LIMA -- Pastor Jim Branis, chaplain of Shepherd of the Valley, will be the guest speaker at this month's Beaver Township Crime Watch meeting which will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Shepherd of the Valley's activity center. He will discuss ways to cope with the Sept. 11 events.
