Albani is Div. I runner-up at Malone



CANTON -- Tom Albani of Boardman High finished second in 16 minutes, 22 seconds in the Division I 5000-meter boys run at the 33rd Malone College Invitational cross country meet Saturday.
The Spartans finished 10th in the team standings with 285 points. Canton GlenOak placed first with 150.
Joe Taylor of Cardinal Mooney took third place in Division III in 16:34, helping the Cardinals to fourth place with 170 points.
Dave Mealy of Springfield finished fourth (16:42) as the Tigers were 19th with 475 points. Cincinnati Anderson won with 99.
In the Division I girls run, Boardman, Fitch and Canfield tied for 12th place with 334 points. Ashland was first with 137.
Durkin 16th: Brittany Durkin of the Spartans finished 16th in 20 minutes, 25 seconds. Kristen Piersante of Canfield was 19th (20:40).
Jenny Homan of Anderson recorded one of the state's fastest times this season in running to victory in 18:58.
In the Div. III run, Katrina Brickner of Lisbon, Julie Nemergut of South Range and Val Zajac of South Range placed third (20:10), seventh (20:27) and eighth (20:35), respectively.
Suzanne Andrews won in 19:46, helping Western Reserve to first place with 85 points.
