Protestant fund-raiser
YOUNGSTOWN -- Protestant Family Services will have a spaghetti dinner fund-raiser Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. at the Calvin Center, 745 Mahoning Avenue. Cost for adults is $5; for children 6 to 12, $2.50. Proceeds will help the agency provide food, utilities and other emergency and casework services.
Also, a workshop will be conducted Oct. 4 for pastors to acquaint them with the agency. Call the agency at (330) 783-1888 for more information on the workshop.
First anniversary
YOUNGSTOWN -- God's Tabernacle of Faith is celebrating its first anniversary this weekend with several events.
There will be activities from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the church. Pastor Verna Etherly of Emanuel Church, Maywood, Ill., will be the speaker. At 7 p.m. the guest speaker will be Pastor Barbara McKay-Houston of Shekinah Outreach Ministry Worldwide International in Toledo.
On Sunday, the guest speaker at 4 p.m. will be from Holy Bible Church. The topic is "We come this far by Faith." For more information, contact Pastor Juanita Slater at (330) 746-6181.
'Abraham & amp; Sarah'
CANFIELD -- The 34west Theater Company will perform "Abraham & amp; Sarah," a play with music that chronicles the biblical couple's struggle to keep faith alive.
The lighthearted production is a nontraditional portrayal of the nomadic couple set in pioneer days and centering on life in a covered wagon.
The play will be performed at 8 p.m. Friday and Sept. 29 and Oct. 5 and 6 at Old North Church. A 2:30 p.m. performance will be Sept. 30 at the church.

'Crazy for Jesus'
AUSTINTOWN -- "Crazy for Jesus" is the theme for Rally Day at First United Methodist Church on Sept. 30.
Sunday school opens at 9:30 a.m. in the sanctuary. The worship hour at 10:45 a.m. will feature the "Crazy for Jesus" band. A covered-dish lunch follows the service.
Human Life Breakfast
CANTON -- The Office of Pro-Life Activities of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown will sponsor the third annual Human Life Prayer Breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 6 in St. Michael the Archangel Parish, 3430 St. Michael Blvd.
Bishop Thomas J. Tobin will preside at the morning prayer. Guest speaker will be Cathleen Cleavner, primary spokeswoman on life issues for the United States Conferences of Catholic Bishops. Her presentation will address moving toward a culture of life.
The catered breakfast will be $10 per person, and $8 for each additional person in a party. Registration forms are available from the Office of Pro-Life Activities, (330) 744-8451, Ext. 289. Registration deadline is Friday.
Spiritual Invasion
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Robinson Brothers will share during Spiritual Invasion 2001 from 1 to 4 p.m. next Saturday at the Salvation Army building on Glenwood Avenue.
There will be a balloon launch, hot dogs, popcorn, brass band, mimes and puppets.
Animal blessing
AUSTINTOWN -- St. Anne Ukrainian Church will have a blessing of animals at 6 p.m. Oct. 4 (the feast of St. Francis of Assisi) by the Rose Lake building.
MUSIC
Choir competition
YOUNGSTOWN -- Gospel choirs from Youngstown, Canton, Cleveland and Lorain will be part of the grand finale of the 2001 McDonald's Gospel Choir Competition from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.
The event will be at the Rock & amp; Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland. The grand finale is the final event of a series of preliminary competitions that took place in Canton, Youngstown and Cleveland in July and August. National recording artist Kim Burrell will perform. This event is free.
Chorus rehearsal
WARREN -- Warren Community Chorus rehearsals for this year's Messiah & amp; More I performances will start Oct. 1 at Blessed Sacrament Church on Reeves Road. Rehearsal is 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
The winter concert will be at 4 and 7 p.m. Dec. 2 at the church.
