Village council addressed these issues this week:
UPassed legislation designating Seventh Street and Connecticut Avenue a four-way stop.
USet Halloween trick or treat for 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 27, followed by a community bonfire at 6 p.m. near Ramsey Pavilion in Woodland Park.
UApproved additional police to handle traffic and parking and prevent vandalism during Friday's football game between McDonald and Mineral Ridge.
UAnnounced a recycling bin for cardboard will be placed by the Trumbull-Geauga Solid Waste District at the village garage.
UAnnounced the purchase of a $22,000 chipper to handle tree branches
UAnnounced that the village will no longer pick up scrap lumber.
SCHOOL BOARDS
NILES
The board this week approved the following:
UA resolution permitting the Football Mothers' Club to erect a 12-by-12 foot concession stand in the northeast corner of Bo Rein Stadium. All labor and materials will be donated.
UA recommendation to have the Pledge of Allegiance recited before all varsity athletic and school events where a public address system is available for the 2001-2002 school year. Students who don't want to participate won't face disciplinary action.
UA recommendation that change orders under $10,000 for the new middle school project be implemented without formal board resolution upon approval of the district superintendent and treasurer and school board president and vice president.
TOWNSHIP SUPERVISORS
UNION TOWNSHIP, PA.
Township supervisors this week:
UApproved the annual contract with the New Castle Transit Authority for bus service to the commercial area on U.S. Route 224 here. The annual cost is $9,284.
UAnnounced that an additional police officer will be added to the township force within a month, when a new patrol car is delivered.
UResident Fran Davidson asked if anything has been done yet about lowering the speed limit or putting a red light on U.S. Route 224 at Lower Idlewild or the Westgate Plaza to solve dangerous difficulty in making a left turn there. Supervisors repeated that PennDOT does not deem the area dangerous enough to fund a light and the township doesn't have the money but continues to seek grant sources.
UApproved a traffic study for a stop sign at West Washington and Scotland Lane and for the intersection of Smithfield and Spring Street.
UHired Dennis DeSilvey as Sewage Enforcement Officer and Coleen Martin as substitute on a per-job basis.
