VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP State-ranked Maplewood cruises in ESC match



Mineral Ridge improved to 10-1 and Hubbard to 11-0.
SOUTH EUCLID -- Senior setter Stacey Parish scored 10 points, with four aces, to spark the Maplewood High volleyball team to a 15-0, 15-1 victory over Lutheran East on Thursday.
The Rockets (11-1, 9-0 East Suburban Conference) are ranked 13th in Division III of the state coaches poll.
Parish opened the contest for the Rockets by serving six straight points, and Maplewood never looked back.
Maplewood's Toni Darocha had six points and 11 setting assists. Christen Clemson had three kills.
Mooney 15-18-15, Ursuline 4-20-4: YOUNGSTOWN -- Aieshya Dixon led the Cardinals (2-8, 1-3 Steel Valley Conference) with nine kills and two blocks. Laura Gaige had 19 points and 21 assists. Andrea Fryad added 12 assists and Jenna Polkovitch had 25 digs.
Lauren Reinhardt led the Irish (2-7) with eight kills. Rachel Evans scored 10 points.
Howland 15-15, Niles 11-4: NILES -- The Tigers got eight points, two kills, three digs and two aces from Bronwyn Salo. Jaime Kelly had six points, two aces and one block, while Stephanie Burns added two kills and one block and Allyson Carman six assists.
For Niles, Amelia Bradley had six blocks, while Michelle Rhodes had five assists and one ace. Nikki Trautman and Tami Lutton each added an ace.
Jackson-Milton 15-16, Lowellville 2-14: LOWELLVILLE -- Desra Tomaino had 10 points, Krystal Gettman had seven points, Jessica Perkins five kills and Erica Stamm had 19 assists for the Bluejays (6-3, 5-2 Inter-County League).
For Lowellville (1-7, 0-6), Emily Vasilchek had six digs, while Michelle Guidos contributed nine points, Rachel Zimmerman three blocks and Danielle Hvisdak four kills and one tip.
Mineral Ridge 15-15, Mathews 5-11: MINERAL RIDGE -- Carrie Wilson had eight points and three assists, while Erin Hinks added seven points and an ace for the Rams (10-1, 6-0 ICL). Tiffany Hack also collected 11 kills and four blocks for the winners.
Brittany Parks had 10 points and three aces, while Lindsey Mizicko had a kill and five blocks for the Mustangs (4-4, 2-3).
Hubbard 15-15, LaBrae 3-4: LEAVITTSBURG -- Nicole Pringle scored 13 points, with 14 assists, to pace the Eagles (11-0, 8-0 Trumbull Athletic Conference). Katy Jo Mroski had 16 kills and four blocks. Traci Hassell had 10 assists.
Ashley Alexander led the Vikings (4-8, 1-6) with two points. Amanda Gordon had five kills and two blocks. Amber Dietelbach had 10 assists.
Champion 16-15-15, Liberty 14-16-9: YOUNGSTOWN -- Hillary Pegg led the Golden Flashes (6-4, 4-4 TAC) with 19 kills and three blocks. Rosie Holmes had 34 assists and Velda Morrison had 11 points.
Sarah Walters led the Leopards (3-7, 1-4) with five kills, five spikes and five blocks. Becki Bruno had seven kills, eight spikes and five digs. Ashley Caffey had 12 points and 43 assists.
Girard 15-15, Lakeview 13-13: CORTLAND -- Junior middle hitter Tealle Hunkus had 26 kills and seven blocks, while Erin Stevens added 36 assists and 13 points for the Indians (9-4, 6-2 TAC).
Whitney Keyser collected 14 kills and Jenna Boazzo added 16 assists and nine points for the Bulldogs (6-2, 6-2).
Brookfield 15-15, Newton Falls 6-4: BROOKFIELD -- Jessica Debroski scored nine points, with four digs, to spark the Warriors (7-5, 6-2 TAC). Juli Alter had six kills and two blocks. Regina Deramo had nine digs and six assists. Lora Mason scored two points, with two kills and five digs.
Louisville 15-15, West Branch 8-10: BELOIT -- For the Warriors, Jen Griffith had five points, two assists, two kills, four passes, a dig and a save, while Stefanie Wilson added three kills and six passes. Also for West Branch, Ashley Armstrong collected three points, two assists, a kill, six passes and three digs.
