LORDSTOWN -- A Prayer for Peace II basket -- United We Stand will be unveiled at the Henn Workshop Collector's Fest from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the factory, 1001 Country Way. The basket is available for $30. The goal is to raise $60,000.
Henn employees have donated the time, materials and commissions so 100 percent of the basket sales will go to the American Red Cross and other charitable organizations aiding victims of last week's terrorist attacks and the rescue effort.
The original Prayer for Peace basket raised $36,000 in 1991 for the Salvation Army, American Red Cross and the USO during the Gulf War, according to company officials.
Saturday's attendees also can pay $8 to Weave-A-Row for Peace, from which donations will go to the American Red Cross, or Weave-A-Row of Hope for breast cancer research.
At noon, Henn will auction Henn collectibles, including one-of-a-kind baskets. Half of those proceeds will go to the Red Cross.
Wal-Mart will match donations
BOARDMAN -- More than $6,300 has been collected at Sam's Club, 7469 South Ave., for national relief efforts. Wal-Mart is matching all contributions collected at its stores up to $1,000 per store for a total of $3.3 million. So far, customers and workers nationwide have contributed and pledged $9.4 million.
Fireworks tribute
YOUNGSTOWN -- A "Tribute to Americans" fireworks show by B.J. Alan Co. will follow the Youngstown State University football game Saturday night at Stambaugh Stadium. Red, white and blue fireworks will be set to patriotic songs. Before the game, 10,000 printed American flags will be distributed, and American Red Cross workers will accept monetary donations toward rescue efforts in New York and Washington, D.C.
Lordstown organizescollection system
LORDSTOWN -- The village police department and Lordstown T.O.G.E.T.H.E.R. have established a collection system for area residents and businesses. Cash, checks and money orders will be accepted at the police station 24 hours a day from Monday through Oct. 6, or can be mailed to Lordstown Police Department Disaster Fund, 1583 Salt Springs Road, Lordstown 44481.
Because of the overwhelming response nationally, there is enough food, clothing and other supplies right now, so only monetary donations are being accepted. Make checks and money orders payable to New York Police & amp; Fire Widows & amp; Children's Benefit Fund.
