CHAMPION -- Homecoming is Friday. Activities begin with a parade at 6:45 p.m., followed by the football game with Newton Falls.
The annual homecoming dance is Saturday from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.
The school district's "meet the teacher nights" have been rescheduled as follows: grades one and two, Sept. 25; grades three and four, Sept. 27. Both are at 7 p.m.
Contest on recycling
WARREN -- The Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste District is sponsoring a contest in honor of America Recycles Day, Nov. 15.
Pupils in Trumbull County schools in grades seven through 12 can submit drawings using a recycling theme. Winners will be posted on the agency's Web page, along with a photo of the winning artist. Prizes include mall gift certificates.
All entries should be submitted to the district office at 2931 Youngstown Road, Warren 44484 by 4:30 p.m., Nov. 2.

Robotics team
GIRARD -- The Girard High School robotics team will conduct a "trash and treasure" sale Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Girard city gymnasium on Main Street, one block south of U.S. Route 422.
Items include household needs, furniture, collectibles, children's clothing and more. There will be refreshments and a bake sale. All proceeds benefit Robotics Team 379.

Patrolman hired
MINERAL RIDGE--Weathersfield Township trustees have hired Richard Mahan of Niles as a full-time police patrolman to replace Dan Kiger, who has resigned.
Mahan is a part-time Niles police dispatcher and a township volunteer reserve police officer.
Township patrolmen earn $15.73 an hour.
Monday's hiring will bring the township's police force back up to nine full-time patrolmen.
Child safety day
GIRARD -- Dr. Christopher M. Hafely will join other chiropractic offices Saturday in the seventh annual Kids Day America/International, a health, safety and environmental awareness day.
Hafely will offer information on crime prevention, child safety and environmental awareness, and child I.D. cards. He will provide free spinal exams and scoliosis screenings for children from noon to 3 p.m. at his office at 447 Churchill Road.
Girard police will offer free fingerprinting, and Girard firemen will teach fire safety tips.
Scrappy, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers mascot, Girard's Safety Pup, a Girard firetruck and the Trumbull County K-9 unit will be on hand.
Three arrested
WARREN -- Police have arrested two adults and one juvenile on aggravated robbery charges.
Detective Dewey Gray said this morning that Jamaur Brown and Milton Lee, both 18, and the juvenile are accused of robbing Shoprite, 1645 Park Ave. N.W., on Sept. 12.
All three live in Warren, but police do not have street addresses.
Brown and Lee pleaded innocent Monday in municipal court. Both are being held in the county jail on $150,000 bonds each. The juvenile is being held in the county juvenile detention center and was to appear in court today. Gray said a fourth suspect is being sought.
Official suspended
MERCER, Pa. -- Mercer County Fiscal Director Jeff Swartzbeck has been suspended.
County Commissioners Gene Brenneman and Olivia Lazor confirmed the suspension Monday but wouldn't say why. Roberta Leonard, assistant fiscal director, is running the office.
