Thieves, vandals target cars in rash of crimes in township



AUSTINTOWN -- Cars and trucks were a popular target for thieves and vandals in the township this weekend. Several crimes involving vehicles were reported to police.
The crimes included five reports of thefts from vehicles. Items stolen included CDs, CD players, license plates, neon lights, a radar detector, a bookbag, and an attach & eacute; case containing music for a trombone.
The thefts were from vehicles that were each parked in different locations in the township.
Police also received reports of two attempted thefts from vehicles this weekend. In addition, a Buick Park Avenue was stolen from a parking lot on South Raccoon Road early today, and a minivan that had been reported stolen from Warren was found in the parking lot for the Austintown police station.
A Nottingham Avenue woman also reported that her car had been stolen.
A Rhode Island Drive man also told police that the windows of his wife's car were broken by vandals early Sunday. The car was parked in the road on Rhode Island Drive.
Damage also was done to cars on Javit Court, Birch Trace, 42nd Street, Polley Drive, Woodland Trace and Dunbar Drive.
