Food fight ends in attempted homicide charges
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Police say a Hermitage man cut two men with the jagged edge of a beer bottle in a fight over food.
Alexander Yankevich, 44, of Kossuth Street faces charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.
Police said Yankevich was arrested at his home at about 8:50 p.m. Saturday after they were called to a fight at the FOP Fire Range and Picnic grove on North Water Avenue.
Authorities said Yankevich showed up uninvited at the private picnic and was given food and something to drink.
He appeared unkempt and hungry, police said.
When the picnic ended, Yankevich started fighting with two Sharon men who claimed Yankevich tried to take more food, police said.
Police said Yankevich broke a beer bottle and used the jagged edge to cut the men and then ran off.
The men were taken by private vehicle to Sharon Regional Health System's hospital, where they were treated for their injuries.
Yankevich was arraigned before District Justice Lawrence Silvis and put in Mercer County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bond, police said.
