Sykes' 5 TDs key Moon to first victory of year



MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa.-- Austin Sykes scored five touchdowns and rushed for over 200 yards to lead Moon High to its first win of the season, 41-26, over New Castle in a WPIAL Class AAA Parkway Conference game Saturday afternoon.
Sykes had touchdown runs of 49, 26, 11, 5 and 5 yards and also ran for a two point conversion.
New Castle (1-2) scored two second quarter touchdowns on a 15-yard run by Cameron Reid and a 6-yard run by Zach Mariacher to take a 14-6 lead, before Moon (1-2) answered with five straight touchdowns.
New Castle add two late touchdowns, one a 5-yard run by Ron Crist and a 1-yard run by Ryan Gicaro.
Mohawk 28, Laurel 6: BESSEMER -- Mitch Gasperoni and Travis Bessell each scored two touchdowns and rushed for over 100 yards as Mohawk rolled to its third straight victory beating Laurel.
Gasperoni scored on runs of 58 and 3 yards, while Bessell had a 25 yard run and then returned an interception 99 yards in the fourth quarter.
Gasperoni finished with 102 yards on 19 carries, while Bessell added 103 yards on eight tries. Ken Hudson scored Laurel's only touchdown on a 3-yard run in the second period.
