NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- David Barensfeld, president and chief executive officer of The Ellwood Group, a steel-fabricating company, will be the speaker at the annual fall dinner for the Lawrence County Republican Party.

Cascade Park eventto honor veterans
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A Veterans Celebration Day will be Sept. 29 in Cascade Park. The event begins with breakfast at 7 a.m. Activities will include posting of the colors, an opening ceremony, an outdoor religious service, musical presentations, military displays and re-enactments, a military retreat, closing ceremony, fireworks and swing dancing.
Admission and parking will be free, but donations will be accepted. Food vendors will be present.

Legislator of the year
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Pennsylvania Sheriffs Association recently awarded state Sen. Bob Robbins of Greenville, R-50th, its legislator of the year award for his support and advocacy of crime-fighting and law enforcement measures in the Pennsylvania General Assembly.
Robbins received the award from the association at the recommendation of Mercer County Sheriff William Romine at the association's annual conference recently in Gettysburg.
Park Avenue repaving
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Park Avenue between Highland Avenue and North Mercer Street will be repaved Tuesday through Friday, and the city asks that no vehicles be parked on Park Avenue during this period, Mayor Tim Fulkerson announced Thursday.
Speech on AIDS
YOUNGSTOWN -- Boyd E. Graves, a Youngstown man who contends the federal government is responsible for developing AIDS and spreading it in Africa and the United States, will speak at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Give the Children A Chance office on the main floor of the Phar-Mor building in Federal Plaza West.

Home-buying seminar
YOUNGSTOWN -- Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Youngstown is sponsoring a first-time Homebuyer Workshop from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The free workshop is designed to cover basic home-buying information such as determining affordability, budget and credit problems, and the application process. It will be at the Family Service Agency, 535 Marmion Ave.
