KEYSTONE CLIPS Commissioner hits the jackpot with state development funds

Hermitage Commissioner Bill Scanlon was all smiles as he accepted an oversized facsimile check from Pennsylvania state Sen. Robert Robbins and state Rep. Michael Gruitza during a ceremony in the city last week.
"Now I know what a lottery winner looks like," Scanlon quipped.
Robbins, R-50th, and Gruitza, D-7th, were on hand to give the city $2.5 million in state funds to assist in the development of Gateway Commerce Park on South Hermitage Road.
Winner: U.S. News & amp; World Report has ranked Thiel College in Greenville as the No. 1 Best Value College among northern comprehensive colleges in its "America's Best Colleges 2002" guide.
The ranking is based on three criteria: The ratio of quality to price, the percentage of all undergraduates receiving grants to meet financial need, and the percentage of a school's total costs covered by the average need-based grant to undergraduates.
Thiel's average student cost after receiving grants based on need was $9,961 per year.
Cleanup: Volunteers are being sought for the annual Pymatuning Lake shoreline cleanup slated for Sept. 29.
Participants are asked to meet at shelter No. 4 near the park office and the picnic area near the Linesville spillway.
The cleanup will run from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Those interested in helping are asked to call the park office at (724) 932-3142 by Sept. 25 to register so adequate supplies can be ordered.
A limited number of gloves will be provided.
