Canfield tennis team second in meet

GATES MILLS -- The Canfield High tennis team placed second in the eight-school Hawken Doubles Tournament Saturday at Hawken High.
Three Canfield doubles squads combined for 18 points for the runner-up spot behind Hathaway Brown with 24.
Two of the Cardinals' squads posted 2-1 records, while the other went 1-2.
Krystle Hively and Ashley Nard of Canfield defeated Cleveland Heights, 7-6, 6-2, and also Hudson, 6-4, 1-6, 11-9, before losing to Hathaway Brown 6-1, 6-1.
The Cardinals' Lisa Davis and Melissa Lee defeated Magnificat, 7-6, 6-2, but then lost to Hawken, 6-1, 7-5, before finishing with an 8-7 win over Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy.
Canfield's Jaime Bastian and Caryn Kovach beat Hawken, 6-1, 1-6, 10-4, but then bowed to Cleveland Heights, 3-6, 7-6, 14-12, and Orange, 8-5.
