Business Expo, aviation day to mix

BUTLER, Pa. -- A full day of free business, aviation and entertainment activities is planned for Saturday at Butler County Airport, 473 Airport Road, Penn Township.
About 45 area businesses will participate in the 2001 Business Expo from noon to 6 p.m. The event has been scheduled to coincide with the airport's annual Community Aviation Day.
The expo, sponsored by the Lake Arthur Country Club and the Butler County Chamber of Commerce and Tourism, will feature the largest group of Butler County businesses under one roof and will bring exhibitors into contact with a wide range of potential customers, the chamber said.
Aviation event: The aviation day program, for which hours are also noon to 6 p.m., is sponsored by the chamber and the Butler County Airport Authority. It will feature displays of a multitude of aircraft and an opportunity to ride on a T6 World War II aircraft.
A skydiving demonstration is scheduled, along with appearances by helicopters. The Radio Control Flying Club will also be present.
Children can meet McGruff the anti-crime dog, have their free fingerprint and identification kits completed, ride in miniplanes and jump in a Moon Bounce. Free bicycle helmets and smoke detectors will be distributed.
The Butler County Symphony Orchestra will give a free concert at 5 p.m. in Hangar H1. "The U.S. Air Corps Song," "Airport Love Theme," selections from "Apollo 13," "Moon River" and "Star Dust" will be played.
The Notables Barber Shop Chorus will join the orchestra for part of the program. Patrons are asked to bring their own chairs to the concert. A hot-air balloon launch will follow at 6 p.m., weather permitting.
