Among the many moments of silence held to honor the victims of Tuesday's terrorist attacks in the U.S., Mahoning Valley football fans and players took time for special patriotic displays.
In Struthers, more than 60 Struthers High School students unfurl a 3,456-square-foot American flag before the start of the Struthers-Rayen football game.
The huge flag was made under the supervision of Struthers High School choir director Bob Noble for the 1976 Bicentennial celebration.
In Campbell, veterans were invited to join the Color Guard on the field to help raise the flag to half-mast. At halftime, the Campbell Memorial and Chaney teams remained on the field for a candlelight moment of silence.
In Columbiana, Crestview cheerleaders lit a memorial candle under the school's victory bell. Fans with American flags were invited onto the field to form a tunnel.
Officials at Lowellville High School passed out red, white and blue balloons to fans while their players wore American flag decals on the backs of their helmets.
In New Middletown, fans sang "God Bless America" before the Springfield/Jackson-Milton game.
