YOUNGSTOWN SCHOOL BOARD Man withdraws candidacy, opts to file as a write-in

YOUNGSTOWN -- Neil Buzzacco, one of nine candidates for three, four-year terms on the Youngstown Board of Education, has withdrawn his candidacy.
He is now opting to file as a write-in candidate for a two-year unexpired term on the body.
No candidates filed nominating petitions for the two-year seat on the board. Because of that, whoever gets the most write-in votes during the Nov. 6 election will get that seat. But that person has to first file with the Mahoning County Board of Elections as a write-in candidate.
The deadline to submit the proper paperwork as a write-in candidate is Monday.
Buzzacco of McCollum Road is permitted to withdraw as a candidate for one of the four-year terms on the board to run as a write-in for the unexpired term, said Michael V. Sciortino, elections board director.
Also, the Rev. Jeffrey Smith of Medford Avenue and Clarence Boles of Idlewood Avenue have filed as write-in candidates.
The unexpired term is held by Marilyn Montes Gonzalez of Wellington Street, who has the spot until the end of this year. She is among the eight remaining candidates running for the three, four-year positions.
