GREENVILLE Council fills seat, accepts resignations

GREENVILLE, Pa. --The borough gained a councilman but lost a city manager and a fire chief.
Council voted unanimously to appoint Theodore Jones of 259 East Ave. to fill the remaining three months in the council term of Earl Butterfield, who resigned in August.
At the same time, council accepted the resignations of Manager Peter Nicoloff Jr. and Fire Chief Walter "Chad" Sankey.
Sankey is retiring Feb. 15 after 28 years, but Nicoloff is resigning after just seven years on the job.
He is leaving Oct. 31 but declined to be specific about why, saying only that it is primarily for family reasons.
"I have options to look at and I will be exploring those," he said this morning, adding that his decision wasn't made on the spur of the moment but is something he has been thinking about for some time.
"This is a very hard and painful decision. I really like what I do," he said.
Nicoloff served on borough council for three years before being named manager.
Council accepted both resignations with regret during its meeting Tuesday.
