Mayor orders tighter security at city buildings
YOUNGSTOWN -- City buildings were open for normal business today except for one thing: Everybody entering had their bags searched and were stopped at metal detectors.
Past practice had been to let city workers, lawyers headed to municipal court, delivery people and other regular visitors pass through without searches even when a metal detector went off.
Mayor George M. McKelvey has ordered that everybody be searched, effective immediately and until further notice.
Security guards said everybody this morning complied with the searches, including municipal court judges and the mayor himself.
