LEETONIA Residents to boil water
Workers unintentionally drained the water tower.
LEETONIA -- Village officials have issued an order for residents to boil drinking water until further notice, and to conserve water for about three weeks.
Administrator Gary Phillips said crews are draining the 480,000-gallon concrete reservoir to install new pipes and a new pumping system.
During work on the reservoir over the weekend, crews inadvertently drained the water tower, so the boil order was issued as a precaution, he said.
Routine water use is fine, Phillips said, but he asks that residents conserve water by avoiding unnecessary activities such as watering lawns.
What's planned: While work on the reservoir is in process, crews will pump water directly to the 50,000-gallon water tower to service residential and commercial customers, he said. Conserving water will help to keep the 50,000-gallon water tower full, he said.
Phillips said the reservoir must be drained to install the new pipes about 18 inches from the reservoir floor.
Once the work is completed, it will take about two weeks to clean, sanitize and refill the reservoir, he said.
