Phipps flower showset to open Oct. 13
The Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens Fall Flower Show will be held Oct. 13 through Nov. 4 in Pittsburgh.
Color, fragrance and jazz music will fill the conservatory as Phipps brings to life the Fall Flower Show: Rhapsody in Bloom.
A sea of lavender, pink, purple, red, orange and yellow will greet guests as they stroll through winding paths.
Many of the displays will include varieties of chrysanthemums that are not typical garden varieties.
Visitors can listen to live jazz music on Sunday afternoons during the show, from 1 to 3 p.m.
Enjoy Fall Evenings from October 19 to November 4, when Phipps stays open until 9 p.m.
Phipps is located at One Schenley Park in Pittsburgh.
Hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Mondays.
Admission is Adults: $6, Seniors (60+): $5, Students (w/ID): $4, Children (2-12): $3,Children under 2: Free.
Pittsburgh museum features culinary arts
The decorative arts meet the culinary arts in What's In Your Tureen: Soup, Stew, or Rago & ucirc;t, a tasty Pittsburgh Carnegie Museum of Art exhibition about soup tureens and the delights of dining at table from 1700 to the present.
Ten tureens-ranging from an elegant early 18th-century Meissen china tureen to the utilitarian 1975 Rival Crock-Pot & reg;-are matched with recipes for the soups, stews, chowders, and rago & ucirc;ts that might have gone in them.
The exhibition is on view in the Treasure Room through August 11, 2002.
