NOTEBOOK From Ohio Stadium

Rededication: Prior the game, a brief ceremony was held at midfield to rededicate Ohio Stadium, marking the end of a three-year preservation, renovation and expansion of the historic edifice. On hand were: two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin; Jim Langhurst, captain of the 1940 team; and Priscilla Smith D'Angelo, the daughter of Howard Dwight Smith, the original architect of the stadium.
Beehive: One of the traditions Jim Tressel brought here from Youngstown State was the beehive. The Buckeyes entered and left the playing field in the familiar close-in formation.
Local ties: Players from the Valley who played Saturday: Akron -- sophomore cornerback Maurice Taylor (Warren Harding), redshirt sophomore tight end Rick Von Bergen (Champion), redshirt junior linebacker Matt Robinson (Wilson), redshirt junior offensive lineman Bryan Shaw (Austintown Fitch), senior offensive lineman Paul Ondrusek (Blackhawk) and sophomore defensive lineman Doug Sutton (Warren Harding); Ohio State -- redshirt sophomore quarterback Rick McFadden (Struthers), who did not play.
Six figures: Capacity of Ohio Stadium wasn't known until the renovation was complete. Saturday, capacity was established at 101,568, making it the fourth-largest on-campus facility in the country, behind Michigan, Tennessee and Penn State.
