SENATE VOTES
Export Administration Act
The Senate on Sept. 6 approved a restructuring of the federal authority to control exports. The legislation regulates the flow of products. Under the bill, the Commerce Department would be allowed to remove export controls from items available to the mass market. Supporters said it would help trade. Opponents said components often found in commercial products where the restrictions will be lifted could be used in the creation of weaponry. The vote was 85 yeas to 14 nays.
