WEATHERSFIELD -- Township firefighters will display and demonstrate for the public their new heart defibrillator and thermal imaging camera from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the administration building before the start of the township trustee meeting. Trustees meet at 7 p.m.
Waste collection
WARREN -- The Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District will sponsor collection of household hazardous waste from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the Packard Music Hall parking lot at 1703 Mahoning Ave.
Residents can drop off old paint, automotive fluids, pesticides, propane tanks and other materials not accepted for curbside pickup.
The district will not accept industrial or medical waste, tires, appliances, ammunition, explosives, asbestos or smoke detectors.

Fatal accident
LISBON -- A 49-year-old Carrollton man was found dead in his 1999 Ford Explorer at the bottom of an 8-foot culvert off U.S. Route 30 by Ohio State Highway Patrol Saturday afternoon. Police said Lee R. Cross was driving west on Route 30, about one mile west of Lisbon, when his sport utility vehicle went off the right side of the road, struck a culvert, overturned, struck a mailbox and guardrail and overturned again. Cross was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident is still under investigation.
Coed fitness center
WARREN -- The YWCA's new coed fitness center at 375 N. Park Ave. will be unveiled at a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Friday.
There will be an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Visitors can try a class for free that day, and there will be prize drawings every 15 minutes.
Club plans dance
BROOKFIELD -- Brookfield Youth Parents Club is sponsoring a back-to-school dance from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday in Brookfield Elementary School.
The dance is for pupils in fifth through eighth grades. There will be prizes and a mystery guessing jar. Photos also will be taken.
Computer classes
CHAMPION -- Trumbull County Career and Technical Center is offering three short-term computer courses through its adult education department.
A typing/keyboarding class begins Tuesday. An introduction to personal computers, Windows and the Word and Excel programs begins Sept. 17 and an introduction to Word 2000 begins Sept. 24.

Meeting canceled
MINERAL RIDGE -- Wednesday's meeting of the Weathersfield Township Zoning Commission has been canceled because of a lack of business on the agenda.
Board work session
MINERAL RIDGE -- Weathersfield Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the high school library for its annual work session on a five-year spending plan.
A presentation from school principals also is planned.
