AREA COLLEGES Swallow soars as Geneva rips Olivet, 77-14

Walsh defeated Westminster while Hiram defeated Bluffton.
BOURBONNAIS, Ill. -- Former West Branch High School standout Ben Swallow completed 14 of 17 passes for four touchdowns Saturday as Geneva opened its season with an easy 77-14 win over Olivet Nazarene.
Swallow found Aaron Price for an 80-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimage. He completed a 27-yard TD aerial to Marko Thomas late in the first quarter as Geneva led 28-7 after 15 minutes.
Swallow hit Thomas for a 4-yard scoring completion in the second quarter and then hooked up with Price for a 29-yard touchdown heave that made it 42-7, still in the first half.
Nick Kalcevic and Josh Mullen each ran 13 times and gained 106 and 105 yards respectively while Price caught two balls for 109 yards and Thomas had eight receptions for 101 yards.
Walsh 17, Westminster 10: NORTH CANTON -- Mack Mitchell returned a fumble 32 yards for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter, lifting Walsh to a 2-0 record.
The Cavaliers scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to rally from a 10-3 deficit. Backup quarterback Winston Woods threw a 42-yard TD pass to David Jenkins to tie the score 10-10 with 5:51 remaining.
Westminster's Scott Froelich fumbled on the Titans' next possession, and Mitchell ran it in for the go-ahead score with 3:37 to play.
The Titans (0-1) took a 10-3 lead with 10:52 left in the third quarter when Chris Roscoe returned Derek Besgrove's fumble 11 yards for a touchdown.
Besgrove rushed for 107 yards on 26 attempts. Starting quarterback Mike Hoover was 3-of-13 for 53 yards and an interception before leaving in the third quarter with a concussion. Woods went 4-of-9 for 74 yards and a TD.
Matt Robison completed 16-of-32 for 180 yards for Westminster.

Grove City 41, Kenyon 6: GAMBIER -- Mike Orlando rushed 22 times for 192 yards and three touchdowns to lead Grove City.
Orlando scored on runs of 63 yards in the first quarter, 35 yards in the second and 1 yard in the third to help the Wolverines (1-1) take a 28-6 lead.
Tony Miga was 23-of-49 for 188 yards with a touchdown and an interception for Kenyon (0-1), which managed just 217 yards on offense but allowed 402 yards.
The Lords rushed for 29 yards on 24 carries, while Grove City got 367 yards rushing on 65 carries.
Steve Roberts rushed for 62 yards and a touchdown and Mike Kashurba had 61 yards rushing and a TD for Grove City.
Miga threw a 6-yard TD pass to Andy Pillay with two seconds remaining in the first half.
Hiram 30, Bluffton 17: HIRAM -- New Hiram head coach Mike Meyers posted a victory in his coaching debut as the Terriers won their season opener.
Leading Hiram was senior Kris Geibel who gained 127 yards on 22 carries while senior quarterback Dwayne Pavkovich added 86 yards and he scored two touchdowns. Pavkovich is a Poland High graduate.
The Beavers (0-2) started the scoring when quarterback Brad Moore ran it in from 33 yards out but Pavkovich hit junior receiver Mike Sandy for a 14-yard TD to knot it at 7-7. The Terriers went in front 10-7 on a 20-yard field goal by Joe Rogich, an Ursuline graduate.
After a Bluffton field goal, Hiram took a 17-10 lead at the half on a Pavkovich 18-yard scoring dash.

Carnegie Mellon 42, Case Reserve 14: PITTSBURGH -- Adam Urbanczyk ran for three touchdowns, including two in Carnegie Mellon's 28-point second quarter in the University Athletic Association Conference opener for both teams.
Grant Eli accounted for most of Case Reserve's offense, hitting 14 of 19 passes for 208 yards and two touchdowns.
But his first touchdown pass, a 50-yarder to Brandon McDowell, didn't come until 30 seconds left in the third quarter, by which time Carnegie Mellon led 35-7. McDowell also had 11 carries for 53 yards for Case Reserve (0-1, 0-1 UAAC).
Carnegie Mellon (2-0, 1-0) opened the scoring with Ricardo Clark's 12-yard first quarter run.
Urbanczyk scored twice from 2 yards to increase the lead to 21-0 midway with 2:25 left in the first half.
Case Reserve then fell apart, as Adam Frank scored on a 19-yard fumble return, followed by a 23-yard Eric Zimpfer touchdown pass to make the score 35-0 at the half.

Campbellsville 34, Malone 15: CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- Eight Campbellsville players ran 39 times for 146 yards and two touchdowns as the team used a 21-point second half to go to 2-0.
JC Savasuk also passed to Brad Troutman for a 59-yard touchdown and 40 yards to David Petett for another score for Campbellsville.
Joel Peterson of Malone (0-1) rushed 19 times for 107 yards. Eric Rector of Malone lit up the skies with footballs, hitting on 17 of 47 passes for two touchdowns.
Scott Lowe caught three balls from Rector, a pair going for scores of 13 and 28 yards.
