BOARDMAN Nurses association honors contractor for his support

BOARDMAN -- Called an avid supporter and long-standing friend, David D. Davis was recognized Friday by the Visiting Nurses Association of the Greater Youngstown Area during the agency's annual "Fall Fantasy" fund-raiser at the Holiday Inn.
Davis, head of D.D. Davis Construction and former head of Davis International, volunteered to oversee the expansion of the VNA building on East Indianola Avenue and has supported the agency with his contracting expertise and financial donations, said VNA director Suzanne Tucci.
Davis was heralded by Tucci as being very supportive to the community, and by VNA board president Dave Camacci as "a very giving person."
His response: "You're honoring the wrong people. You ought to be honoring the nurses," Davis said. "Doctors don't make house calls anymore, but the nurses do. Pick up the phone and they're there."
"There's not much compassion like that anymore," he added.
Davis is the third generation of his family in the contracting business and has built in the Youngstown area and around the globe. He was recently recognized by the Butler Institute of American Art. The D.D. Davis and Velma Davis Education and Visitor Center at the fellows Riverside Gardens in Mill Creek Park was named in honor of Davis and his wife of 60 years.
Davis is a past president of the Youngstown Camp of Gideons, and in the 1980s was named Protestant Man of the Year by the Organization of Protestant Men. He has served on the board of directors of Bank One of Eastern Ohio and has been named Manager of the Year by the Mahoning Valley Management Association.
