Scouting report: The Titans will begin their second season under coach Jerry Schmitt, and are coming off an 8-2 season in 2000. Walsh opened the season last Saturday with a 41-7 romp past Olivet Nazarene, as coach Jim Dennison launched his seventh year at the Cavaliers' helm. Last year, Walsh posted a 6-5 record.

HIRAM vs. BLUFFTON

Scouting report: Hiram launches its first season under new coach Mike Meyer after going 3-7 last season. Eight offensive starters return for Hiram, including quarterback Dwayne Pavkovich (Poland). On defense, 16 lettermen are back, including senior linebackers Matt Steiner (Poland) and Derrick Paes (Springfield Local), senior defensive backs Marcus Richardson (Girard) and John Pascarella (Ursuline), and senior placekicker Joe Rogich (Ursuline). Bluffton opened coach Carlin Carpenter's 24th season with a 24-13 loss to Marietta last Saturday. Carpenter is the longest current head coach at the same school in Ohio college football. The Beavers were 7-3 last year.
THIEL vs. KEAN

Scouting report: Thiel, under first-year coach Jack Leipheimer, lost its lid-lifter last Saturday to Capital 34-13. Several area players stood out on defense for the Tomcats. Senior end Demetrius Richman (New Castle Union) had a game-high 13 tackles on five solo and eight assists, while freshman linebacker Robert Drake (Chaney High) came up with 10 stops, and sophomore outside linebacker Rennie Gash (Farrell) and freshman cornerback Kennard Davis (Farrell) each had an interception. Kean University of Union, N.J., under second-year coach Joe Loth, make its season debut.
GENEVA vs. OLIVET NAZARENE

Scouting report: Geneva, coached by veteran Gene DeMarco, lost its season opener last Thursday to California (Pa.), 28-6. The Golden Tornadoes also lost all-conference center Norman Daugherty, who fractured his left ankle on the first play of the game and will be lost for half of the season. Quarterback Ben Swallow completed 16 of 28 passes for 178 yards, but was unable to throw Geneva into the end zone. Olivet Nazarene opened its season last Saturday with a 41-7 loss to Walsh. One of Olivet's leaders is quarterback C.J. Banks, who passed for 150 yards in last week's loss.
MALONE vs. CAMPBELLSVILLE (KY.)

Scouting report: Malone, coached by third-year mentor Steve Saulnier, is coming off 4-7 record in 2000. The Pioneers are led by quarterback Eric Rector, wide receiver Jason Cunningham, running back Joel Peterson and linebacker Tyran Holloway. Campbellsville is coming off a45-27 win over Austin Peay last week. Coached by Ron Finley in his 14th year, the Tigers were 7-4 last year.Radio: WANR-AM 1570, WGRP-AM 940.
SLIPPERY ROCK vs. TIFFIN

Scouting report: Slippery Rock rolled in its opener last Saturday over Florida Atlantic, 40-7. Florida Atlantic was playing its first-ever intercollegiate football game. Tiffin was walloped in its debut last Saturday by Gannon, 47-7.
ALLEGHENYvs. WASHINGTON & amp; JEFFERSON

Scouting report: The Gators, guided by fourth-year skipper Blair Hrovat, took it on the chin from Mount Union in their opener last Saturday, 52-7. The Presidents opened play last Saturday with a 16-7 win over Ursinus.
GROVE CITY vs. KENYON

Where: McBride Field, Gambier.
Last year: Grove City 27, Kenyon 21.
Scouting report: The Wolverines dropped a 23-14 decision to Dickinson in their season inaugural. Coach Chris Smith is in his 18th year at the Grove City helm. Vince Arduini opens his seventh year at the coaching helm. Last year, the Lords were 3-7.
