YOUNGSTOWN -- Mahoning County commissioners gave their blessing Thursday to a property tax abatement for developers of a medical complex in Campbell.
The eight-year, 57-percent abatement was approved Wednesday by Campbell City Council, said Thomas Presby of the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber of Commerce. He said it's the first abatement on the books in Campbell.
The abatement will allow Malmer & amp; Frangopoulos Ltd. to add an estimated $600,000 medical practice building onto an office building on McCartney Road.
Dr. Michael Malmer said the building will include a podiatry office, a physical therapy and rehabilitation facility and a radiology office.
Aggressive approach: Malmer said he and Dr. Michael Frangopoulos have tried for years to entice other physicians to locate in Campbell, so they decided to take a more aggressive approach.
"There is nothing else like this in our area," he said. "We thought maybe if we build it, they will come."
The approach worked and tenants are secured for the offices, he said.
Ground will be broken for the $500,000 building this week and construction should take about three or four months, Malmer said.
