Spice Girl pelted with produce during concert
LEICESTER, England -- Though listeners threw fruit and vegetables at her during a recent concert, Victoria Beckham -- also known as Posh Spice -- says she really can sing.
"Singing live is something that I will do and is something that I feel I have to do to prove to everybody I can sing," she told Britain's GMTV. Beckham was pelted with apples and onions during a concert Sunday. It wasn't clear why the audience threw the produce. Beckham did not appear to have been hit, but several dancers on stage had to dodge the flying objects.
Geena Davis marriesdoctor in New York
LOS ANGELES -- Oscar-winning actress Geena Davis is a newlywed.
Davis, 44, wed Dr. Reza Jarrahy, 30, in a private ceremony Saturday in the Wainscott area of Long Island, N.Y.
They met more than two years ago through mutual friends and will live together in Southern California, Davis' publicist, Paul Bloch, said Tuesday.
"We are very happy and we look forward to spending the rest of our lives together," the couple said in a statement.
It is the first marriage for Jarrahy and the fourth for Davis, who won a best-supporting actress Oscar for 1988's "The Accidental Tourist."
'Titanic' star splitsfrom her husband
LONDON -- "Titanic" star Kate Winslet and husband, Jim Threapleton, are separating, the actress' spokesman says. No reason for the couple's split was given.
"No other parties are involved in this amicable and respectful separation. Their daughter, Mia, will remain first priority for both of them," Winslet's spokesman, Robert Garlock, said Monday.
The couple married in November 1998. Mia was born last October.
Winslet, 25, met Threapleton on the set of "Hideous Kinky." She once remarked that she "fell in love at first sight" with the third assistant director of the film.
In 1998, Winslet chose the Oscars for the American debut of her then-new boyfriend. "He's so dashing," she said. "I love him. It's that serious."
Last year, the couple paid $1.17 million for a rural home in southern England in which to raise Mia.
Winslet is due to appear in the Mick Jagger-produced "Enigma," a tale about British code-breakers trying to unravel German U-boat ciphers during World War II.
The movie, which also stars Dougray Scott, Jeremy Northam and Saffron Burrows, debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January.
Nicole Kidman chatswith Prince Charles
LONDON -- Just three weeks after her divorce from Tom Cruise and just three days after her announcement at the Venice Film Festival that "I'll take a tall man," 5-foot-10 Nicole Kidman has found a tall man. He is Prince Charles, who chatted with the star at the glitzy British premiere of "Moulin Rouge" on Monday night, People magazine reports.
Eyeing the line of scantily clad can-can dancers who decorated the theater before the screening, the 5-foot-11 royal told Kidman, "I'm interested to see what these ladies have to do. Did you have to do it, too?"
"Yes," Kidman replied. "But I'm not doing it tonight."
Dressed in a sexy black number by French designer Jean Paul Gaultier, Kidman told the crowd she was nervous and jet-lagged. She also said she was going to Sydney, Australia, by next weekend to spend some time with her parents.
The saucy Aussie, as the British press likes to call Kidman, had taken a jab at her ex over the previous weekend at a press conference in Venice, where she was promoting her movie "The Others." She said she would like her next beau to be tall.
Official bios list Cruise's height at 5 feet 9 inches.
Letterman wantshis name on stadium
MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) -- David Letterman believes his alma mater should name its football stadium after him, even if he doesn't pay a dime for the honor.
The CBS talk show host says he's launching a campaign to name the new Ball State University stadium.
"What could be more fun, on a crisp autumn Indiana afternoon, to load the family and get the picnic and have a little tailgate party out there in the parking lot of majestic Dave Letterman Stadium?" the 1969 graduate asked his television audience Wednesday.
University officials said they enjoyed the attention from Letterman, but they have no immediate plans to grant his wish unless he's willing to pay up to $6 million -- about half the cost of the new stadium.
"There will be no money changing hands," Letterman said. "The reason I don't need to give Ball State University money is each and every night, especially during football season, I'm giving them a million dollars in free exposure."
